In this tutorial I will show you how to make a typical size company logo in 5 minutes.
As result you will get the following logo:

So let's see the steps.

Step 1.
Create a new document with size 88x31 pixel.

Step 2.
Zoom in to 500% to work more easily. You should have something like this:

Step 3.
Now set the default foreground color to blue (In RGB format R:90,G:130,B:200)

Step 4.
Now select the rectangle tool and draw a 88x31 pixel rectangle.

Step 5.
On Layers panel select the actual layer. Make a double click on it to open the layer properties window.

Step 6.
Select Stroke and set the properties as follows:

Step 7.
Set a gradient effect as this: (Dark blue: R:60,G:40,B:150)

Step 8.
Create a new layer for text:

Step 9.
Set text properties as follows: (Font can be downloaded from www.dafont.com) Text color is set to R:200, G:210, B:230

Step 10.
Write your text and then set some stroke effect on the layer:

Step 11.
Write the date text with color R:170, G:30, B:10 and add a stroke to it.

Step 12.
Now you are ready. The result is:
