In this tutorial we’ll learn how to create a stylish, well-balanced logo. In this case, we’ll use the techniques involved to create a logo for a hair gel. The tutorial does assume some prior Photoshop knowledge.

1. Background

Start by making a new document and filling the background with a color. I used 340×215 with 300 Resolution. I filled the background with #092636.
To give the background some detail, I added a photo of an eye and blended it (I blended it by lowering the opacity and changing the layer mode to Softlight.)

2. The Logo

Now let’s start the logo.. get the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) lasso tool image and make a crooked square selection like so:

square selection
Fill the selection with #33637d.

You can either create a new layer now or make another selection on the same layer like so:

second selection

Fill that selection with #4d778f.

Now if you have 2 shape layers, merge them together and apply the following layer styles to the one layer:

Drop Shadow
Inner Shadow
Gradient Overlay
